Direct attack on the 2nd Amendment Right to Bear Arms Ramps Up
In 2018 the enemies of freedom have been emboldened in their quest to extract the “liberty teeth” of the Constitution, namely the right to keep and bear arms. From the shameful call by a former supreme court justice to repeal the 2nd Amendment, to the anti-American Deerfield Village Board of Deerfield, Illinois, and its April 2nd vote to ban what they view as “assault weapons” and high-capacity magazines”, according to CBS News., liberty is in jeopardy.
“This local legislation”, said Sam Bushman, VP for operations of CSPOA, “violates the Constitution, and because it allows for the confiscation of firearms without any due process, is also a violation of our 2014 Resolution.” Though directed at the Federal government, it applies to any governmental level. Indeed, the Resolution states, in part,
“BE IT RESOLVED THAT The following abuses will not be allowed or tolerated:
1) Registration of personal firearms under any circumstances.
2) Confiscation of firearms without probable cause, due process, and constitutionally compliant warrants issued by a local or state jurisdiction.”
Our members are resolute in our desire to hold accountable government officials who violate the Bill of Rights. The Resolution closes with these words:
“There is no greater obligation or responsibility of any government officer than to protect the rights of the people. Thus, any conduct contrary to the United States Constitution, Declaration of Independence, or the Bill of Rights will be dealt with as criminal activity.” Thusly, any officer who attempts to confiscate a weapon pursuant to this ordinance should be arrested by the county sheriff.
CSPOA urges every sheriff, peace officer, citizen, other members, and elected official to speak up and make this issue one that is on the front burner, regardless of where you live or work, lest this insanity spread to other towns and states.
A local group, Guns Safe Life, has filed a lawsuit challenging the ordinance in Deerfield Village. The NRA-ILA has joined in the opposition.
Sheriff Richard Mack (Ret.), founder and president of the CSPOA, warned, “If we don't treat these spreading ideas like cancer they are, we will see tyranny metastasize throughout our body politic.”
