Republican lawmakers from Ohio shut down Gov. John Kasich after he tried to prevent the passage of legislation that expands the rights of gun owners in the state. The Ohio legislature passed a bill containing several protections for gun owners, with the focus of the bill being an expansion to “stand your ground” self-defense laws.

An additional part of the bill was an allowance for pre-emption on local governments from passing more restrictive gun laws. This means that the state could pass a pre-emptive law that would prevent a city from passing a citywide ordinance restricting firearms.

According to the Associated Press, the bill also expanded the liberties of off-duty cops to carry their weapon when they are not on the clock.

Ohio’s legislature passed the bill with ease, but Kasich found a problem with a few aspects of the bill and vetoed it.

According to the AP, Kasich didn’t like that the legislature refused to look at red-flag laws that would allow law enforcement to take firearms away from an individual at the request of a family member.  (Source: https://ijr.com/ohio-legislature-overturns-john-kasich-veto-guns/)

CSPOA opposed virtually all of these “Red Flag” laws as currently enacted and/or proposed, because they do not protect the targeted citizen's due process, including 2nd, 4th, and 5th Amendment rights.  The 4th Amendment's property protections also are destroyed in these laws.
