(by Rick Dalton on Oct 17, 2015) “I will not allow gun confiscation in my county.”

An Indiana sheriff says he would ignore orders issued by President Obama calling for gun confiscation. So said Sheriff Brad Rogers, of Elkhart County, Indiana. The recent shootings in Oregon and Arizona have sparked yet another campaign to limit ownership, register, and, according to many law enforcement professionals, confiscate firearms.

For Sheriff Rogers, a member of our CSPOA Advisory Board, this is nothing new. He is a staunch defender of the 2nd Amendment, and, indeed the entire Bill of Rights. He prevented the harassment of an Amish farmer in his county by the federal Department of Agriculture. and threatened to arrest any federal agents who might contact this farmer again without a due process search warrant.

CSPOA Founder and President, Sheriff Richard Mack ((Ret.), knows that indeed, Obama can’t coerce any state, county or local governmental agency into following an executive order, or even federal legislation. “First of all, the President only has direct authority over the executive branch of the Fedgov. Not an iota more”, he said. “In fact, I and a few other sheriffs challenged the Brady Bill twenty years ago. We won a landmark Supreme Court Decision that said just that”. [Mack Printz v. US] Sheriffs don’t work for the federal government. Period.”

Here is an account of his latest interposition on behalf of his constituents, as reported by the Conservative Read.

“Elkhart County Sheriff Brad Rogers made his stance on the Second Amendment clear during an interview on a local PBS broadcast, in which he supported the right of Americans to possess firearms free of additional infringements.”

“We’ve always had this conversation that we need more reasonable gun control put in place,” Rogers said during a panel discussion on WNIT’s Politically Speaking. “Well we have what is reasonable, in my opinion, and in fact, it’s probably overdone.”
