UPDATE: We’ve been contacted by police chiefs and other groups or individuals who want to be counted among the valiant as well! Look for their list after the sheriffs.
The following sheriffs, state sheriff’s associations, and police chiefs have vowed to uphold and defend the Constitution against Obama’s unconstitutional gun control measures. We applaud these public servants for their courage and conviction.
The remarkable thing about what these brave men and women are doing is that nobody told them to do it. Neither the CSPOA nor any other organization that we are aware of contacted sheriffs across the nation and asked them to make statements; this is something sheriffs did on their own, or because their constituents requested it of them. Soon, people started submitting letters and links to us, and it was such a remarkable thing that we started to collect all the names and list them together. Then the miracle happened: Other sheriffs across the nation have been inspired by the courage of those who stood first. Now we see the power of standing, even if you fear you may stand alone.
NOW, powered by the gaining momentum of this movement, the CSPOA has joined with other like-minded organizations in a largely volunteer effort to contact all the remaining sheriffs and ask them for a statement. You can read more about this effort here.
“I call on sheriffs all over this nation to add their voices to the growing numbers of faithful protectors of our freedom.”

TOTAL STATE SHERIFFS ASSOCIATIONS: 18
Updated 05/20/2013Note: A statement from a state association does not necessarily mean that every sheriff in the state supports it. One such case is is Florida, listed below. This statement was voted on and approved by a majority of the sheriffs in the association, but not by EVERY sheriff in the state. While other lists may include all sheriffs within such a state, we have chosen to list associations and individual sheriffs separately.

TOTAL SHERIFFS: 452
Updated 05/20/2013We are in the process of researching and posting links to online statements for all entities on these lists. You can help us by sending us links to statements by any of them.If you know a sheriff or association that should be listed: Please send us the sheriff's full name, county, and state along with a link to an online statement by the sheriff if available. You may also email us supporting documents via the contact page.
Disclaimer:
- A reaffirmation that the sheriff will follow his or her oath and uphold the Constitution
- An affirmation to support the constitutional second amendment rights of citizens in his or her jurisdiction
HOWEVER, we are listing individuals who are still trying to have it both ways because we believe they have taken the first positive step by stating that they will defend the constitutional rights of the citizenry. We hope they will soon realize that the two ideas cannot exist together.
Names added recently are marked with the number of days since added, in the 'NEW' column. For instance, 5D = Added 5 days ago.

How NOT To Get On The List
We used to have a list down here of lame sheriffs who are declining to defend the rights of their people, seemingly not realizing what is at stake or trusting the feds to be the only source of truth. Richard Mack has started calling this our Red Coat List. This list has now grown to include not just sheriffs and associations with cowardly stances, but also those who are openly attacking the good men and women who are standing firm. We’re moving this list to another page: The Red Coat List
This guy is dead on about the creeping incrementalism that is seeking to disarm America. He also mentions our Colorado Sheriffs opposition of these laws: http://blackshepherdblog.wordpress.com/2013/05/17/gun-control-debate-part-four-no-one-is-trying-to-take-your-guns/
Hmm perhaps it’s time to also keep track of States nullifying federal gun laws as well?
http://www.thedailysheeple.com/missouri-legislature-nullifies-all-federal-gun-control-measures-by-a-veto-proof-majority_052013/missouri
Hey Guys,
I check out your list about once a week and it is always growing, I was wondering if you could put a date next to the new ad ons so I don’t have to wonder who’s on first,LOL. Your doing a great job. Thanks.
That’s a great idea. We’ve implemented it, sortof. We’re marking anybody added within the last 2 weeks with the number of days since added. That should make them stand out.
I noticed that last night but wasn’t sure what it was..
On another note, any idea why why there hasn’t been any T.V. coverage of the Kansas nullification?I kinda got my guess’s…but.
Yes, several states have now made landmark nullification decisions, which you would think would be big news no matter which side of the issue you are on. For some strange reason, though, we have a media blackout… BUT DID YOU HEAR ABOUT JORDIN SPARKS’ HOT NEW LOOK?
Now that is something definitely newsworthy.Jordin Sparks’.I heard it here first! Good reporting.
how our lawmakers could uphold some one who goes to other countries time and time again only to put america down and bow to to some. now the visit to mexico blame the usa for guns and drugs….that is being a traitor putting your own contry down and blame its people.if one is ashamed of the country you lead… then step down and let someone lead that is proud to be an american.we stand tall for our rights and freedom. i agree with benjamin franklin quote!!!!100%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s pretty bad when the Sheriff of Mass isn’t on the list protecting the people of this state. We need to get him on board with the rest of the sheriffs his name is Sheriff Michael Ashe and he is from the city of Springfield Mass.
May I get a direct answer to a question?
As a Constitutional Sheriff one of the citizens of your district who is well trained, well prepared and a peaceable law abiding citizen has trouble sleeping at night so a doctor prescribes him some form of anti depressent (I know this happens because it happened to my wife but she would not take them).
Next thing you know a Federal or State Swat team is attempting to by force remove his weapons and/or arrest him.
This man considers (rightfully) that they are acting in violation of the Constitution which is in violation of law, therefore he considers them absolutely no different than any other criminal thug who might attempt to enter his home at gun point to harm him and or steal his belongings.
This man goes to war to rightfully defend himself, his family, and his property and those officers still standing call in ‘Officers Down’
Does your department immediately respond to assist the ones committing criminal acts, or to defend the one putting his life on the line to defend himself, his family and his property?
That truly is the only question that matters to the people and eliminates all the BS. Can I get a direct answer and how many of these so called constitutional Sheriffs will give that direct answer?
Glen, this is also one I would like to see answered, for similar reasons.I also await, thanks for bring that up.
Glen,
Clearly you’ve already got an answer in mind, so why don’t you just give it? Of course you know that we don’t have info on how many sheriffs would respond in exactly the way you want them to in exactly this scenario.
Sheriff Jim Casias of Trinidad, CO, Sheriff of Las Animas County should be on the list. He supports the Constution, is on the CO sheriff’s list, and has gone on Cam Edwards (NRA) program to publicly show his support.
You’re right… he should be. Thanks!
I am from SC, I thought our sheriff in Aiken had signed! Please advise, he will be getting a call from me!
Have not seen a petition from him yet, unless it’s still in the works. Did a quick search online and did not find any statements from him on the issue. If anybody has any info on this, please let us know.
Multnomah County, Sheriff Staton may as well be scrubbed.

So much for his constituents looks like he caved to the county politicians.
You’re so right… we’ve removed him.
“NOTE: Some persons or organizations on this list state that they are in favor of further gun restrictions in order to ‘keep guns out of the hands of criminals and/or the mentally ill”

Can you please identify these traitors so we know who they are?
One cannot state that they will uphold their Oath to defend the United States Constitution and then turn right around and want further restrictions on the 2nd amendment that forbids any infringements, without being a blatant liar and an enemy to the very Constitution they are claiming they stand behind!!!!
There is no maybe they will wake up to it. The line is drawn in the sand and everyone with an IQ over 50 realizes it by now. If one attempts to stand with one foot on either side of that line at this point, they become the enemy of both sides.
If they are heading for my door and there is any doubt in my mind whatsoever, well you get the picture.
Please review the attached link and add the Maryland Sheriffs Association to the list.

In our estimation this does not qualify. First they say they’re going to leave constitutionality up to the courts; then they state support for a national background check system. And they have the nerve to end off by blathering about considering the children as the community’s most valuable asset. Yes, we all feel that way; that’s why we want to keep America FREE. “Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” – Benjamin Franklin
Maryland is a state TO STAY AWAY FROM. The clone of Ovomit is our Governor! Need I say more… IF I could afford to get out of this rotten state, I would leave tomorrow! OweMalley wants to ‘control His People, stale from them & give it to his “New Americans” aka his Illegal Aliens!
